Sustainability

Sustainability means taking action every day to benefit the environment, people and society.

As an energy infrastructure company, safety is an important part of Loiste’s corporate culture, and responsibility begins with every one of our employees and partners. As a contracting organisation, social responsibility applies to our own staff as well as to partners in cooperation and to contractors’ and subcontractors’ staff whenever they work on Loiste Corporation contracts.  Sustainability comes from each and every one of us at Loiste companies, as well as from the partners involved in our activities. We take environment biodiversitet and energy efficiency into account in all our procurement.

We are involved in designing, building and maintaining a weather-proof electricity grid that also allows wind power to grow. We aim to move to fully carbon-neutral forms of district heat and electricity generation by 2026. We work actively and systematically to reduce emissions

For us, responsibility also means that we work hard for the people of Kainuu and Kainuu. We employ local people and businesses and to keep Kainuu attractive.

Responsibility and sustainable development strategy in Loiste companies

Our commitment to sustainability and responsibility has also been recognised in the international GRESB sustainability assessment, where we have received excellent results. In 2025, we scored 100 out of 100 and received a full five stars.

The GRESB Infrastructure Assessment is an international sustainability benchmarking tool that assesses a company’s responsible operations and performance against a set of indicators. The assessment focuses in particular on measuring environmental responsibility, social responsibility and good governance in areas such as internal operations, stakeholder engagement and supply chains.

Since 2020, Loiste performance has improved dramatically. In 2021, we scored 79 points and the following year we scored 92, earning us recognition as the most improved company of the year.
